Director
Alejandro Montalvo Alejandro began his career as a photographer for independent films such as “Hotel de paso” by Paulina Sanchez and “Navajazo,” which won the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival. His first short film, “Hambre,” was selected for more than a dozen international festivals. Alejandro Montalvo’s debut feature film, Surgencia, is the journey of the renowned Mexican winemaker Hugo D’Acosta and chef Benito Molina through the Baja California peninsula, reflecting on wine, community, and the decisions we make without considering their future impact. Alejandro’s recent work includes the manifesto campaigns “Capital del Vino Mexicano” and “La Gastronomía Más Revolucionaria de México.” These campaigns present a choral narrative of the people who live from the craft of gastronomy and wine in Baja California, from farmers, cooks, and chefs to distributors and producers. They have become the first campaigns to bring together the majority of representatives of Mexican wine and gastronomy. He was selected for the Talent Campus at Guadalajara and the Doculab of the Guadalajara International Film Festival.
